My Dream
I had a dream last night where my water broke while I was working in the office. It's understandable that I'd be subconsciously considering such possibility since I do plan to work until the day I give birth.
In my dream, my water broke while I was working on the schedules for next term at the Coordinator's desk. I calmly told Candy (she's like the office manager) to (a) call me an ambulance and (b) look up the telephone number of the Department of OB/GYN at Tri-Service Hospital while I call Bill and my mom. While I was talking to my mom on my cell phone, Candy transferred Dr. Liu to my desk. I told him that the ambulance was on its way and that I'd been tracking the intervals of my contractions. Everything went swimmingly until Bill and I both arrived at the hospital and realized that we hadn't prepared anything for my stay in the hospital.
This morning, I put the telephone number of the Department of OB/GYN at Tri-Service Hospital in my cell phone.
The next thing I saw in my dream was when they put Peanut in my arms. He had super curly black hair and his skin was all wrinkly. He and I were both half naked, and he nuzzled on my chest like a kitten. "You should try feeding him," someone suggested. However, I didn't know what to do with him, and I was all worried about breaking his neck or dropping him by accident.
Am I gonna know what to do when the time actually comes?

from what i know, and what others have told me, it seems to be different for every new mama. some say it 'comes naturally.' it sure as hell didn't for me! luckily, i was surrounded by amazing nurses and midwives before, during, and after the birth, not to mention my amazingly supportive hubby. i wouldn't worry yourself sick about whether it's going to come naturally or not. i would just seek out the support that's already out there, including hospital staff, friends (like me!) and your mom. i know you've already read a lot, but let me know if you have any specific questions and i can share my experience! you're going to be great, Kate. i feel it and know it, knowing you.
