William Kyle Benjamin Roberto Martin

It's been a while since Mommy went out to socialize, so everyone was very excited to see us when we showed up at Uncle Ben's place for the "Pizza & Pee Wee Herman" night.

The most excited person was Uncle Kyle. As soon as he saw us, he threw his arms in the air and came right up to give you (= my belly) a big hug. He gave you one cheek and said, "Hello, baby. It's Uncle Kyle." He then suggested that you should be named Kyle for it's a solid strong name. With one eyebrow raised, he also informed us that the name means "fair and handsome". His wife, Aunt Carla, vouched for the validity of the name. When Daddy told them that he has always liked that name, you became baby Kyle throughout most of the night whenever Uncle Kyle talked about you.

In fact, Uncle Kyle was not the only person who has suggested that we should name you after him. Uncle Roberto, another friend of Daddy's who moved back to Seattle a while ago, suggested that we name you Roberto as soon as he found out we got pregnant. Too bad Uncle Roberto was not at the party last night. It would've been funny to see the two uncles fighting over whose name you should take.

At the end of the night when we were saying good-bye to everybody, Uncle Ben came over with a ukulele and started singing to you (well... to my belly), "Baby Ben.... Baby Ben.... If you can hear me, kick to the beat." I can't remember exactly what he said about the meaning of the name Ben (I think he said it means male). Anyway, while he was singing to you, he looked up at me and said in all seriousness, "You've got to let me know if he's really kicking as I sing to him." Unfortunately, I think you probably fell asleep when we were watching the movie. We had to disappoint Uncle Ben.

That's why I put all 3 names together in the title of this post (Daddy recently started leaning toward naming you Bill Jr, hence the William). In other words, you could be William Kyle Martin, William Benjamin Martin, or William Roberto Martin. Of course, we could always use William as the middle name. Mommy has been thinking about the name Matthew because it means "a gift from God" (and you are a miracle in our life). Then again, Jonathan also means "God's gift"... Hmmm.....

I love them all! Well, Roberto? Maybe not so much. ;-) Kyle is great, Benjamin is great (though he has a 1st cousin once removed named Benjamin), William/Bill/Billy (/maybe Will/Willy??) is great too!! Jonathan is great! I think I love Matthew the most though. Can't wait to hear more ideas floating around in your head!

ps. even if you did go with Ben, it wouldn't really matter that there's another little boy in the family named Ben. We have 3 Bills, 2 Joeys, LOTS of Renee's (middle names anyway). ;-)

pps. the gift I'm going to make for you is a calendar book thingy. ;-) It's like a photo album with a calendar on one page and a spot to fill in pictures/writing on the opposite page....know what I mean? Sorry to keep you in suspense for so long, I forgot that you had asked. It's not a big deal, just a cute thing. So, be sure to let us know when you've picked a name.....if you do before he's born......so I can include it in the book. ;-)

I can't believe you caved, Shellee!!! I thought you were going to sneaker every time I ask what you're making....

THAT'S AWESOME AND I'M REALLY EXCITED (this is how loud I'd be if we were talking face to face). I've been wanting to buy one since the first day of my pregnancy, but I haven't been able to find one I liked. Thank you thank you thank you.

I'm also very happy to know that you like Matthew the most 'cause I. do. too!!! It's such a cute name and the meaning is fitting. Maybe I've been influenced by cartoons, but Matthew just sounds like a good kid (unlike Sid... see what I mean?).

One thing I'm pretty sure of is that we're not going to give him a name until we meet him. Right now, we're just getting a few names ready (including Chinese names too), so let us know whenever you have an idea.

If I'm allowed to vote, for "the naming contest", I'm voting for Matthew because of the meaning and because it could be shorten for Matty...ha. (...what's the deal with people who want you to name your child after them....wait, I'm also doing it...what's the deal!)
