#10 You shouldn't be outside. It's too hot.
#9 Is this your first baby?
#8 You must be tired.
#7 Why are you still working?
#6 Eat/Drink more _____. It's good for the baby.
#5 Are you scared of going through labor pain?
#4 It must be a girl!
#3 It must be a boy!
#2 Your belly is so big!
and the Number One most common thing people say to me these days is:
You're ready to pop any day now, aren't you?!
Bill and I went to a traditional market this morning and during the 20 minutes we were in the market, every person we bought something from gave us some kind of pregnancy advice.
- the lady at the fish ball stand gave us extra soup because "fish soup is the best kind of soup for pregnant women. It's not greasy, and it's full of nutrients that are good for baby's brain development."
- the lady at the vegetable & fruit stand gave us discount on a bunch of dark green veggies called Palace Vegetables because "the nutrients in dark green vegetables can make your baby smart." She also gave us a discount on a bunch of lychees. "Eat more fruit now, so your baby will like fruit after he's born," she said.
- the lady at the seaweed stand advised that I eat more seaweed because "your baby will have a head of beautiful silky black hair."
- the lady at the noodle stand was happy that we bought some buckwheat noodles. "It's much healthier than white noodles."
- the lady at the shop that sells all kinds of grains told us that "red bean soup is really good for pregnant women for two reasons. One, red beans are a good source of iron. Two, red bean soup helps reduce water retention."
- The gentleman at another fruit stand promised that the bottles of orange juice at his stand were all freshly squeezed. "I won't lie to a pregnant woman," he said loudly. "This is 100% fresh orange juice. It's packed with Folic Acid."
By the way, if we go by Dr. Liu's due date (Sept 11), we're exactly 2 months away as of today.

TWO MONTHS!!!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! By the way, all those things the market people said about the foods are true: with the exception of the juice and folic acid, maybe.
Wow! Two months, holy crap!! I better start working on that book! I've been so stupidly busy and occupied with other things, I haven't even started it. I was kinda' waiting until we got back from California though. So, there's my excuse. ;-)
So, the 'Fish Ball' stand? That sounds gross! I've heard the darker the vegetable (well, lettuce at least) the better it is (in general, and for you). I've heard that wive's tale about the seaweed. Funny. ;-)
I wish we could come over there. I bought a Win For Life ticket the other day (the big prize is $1000 a week for life!), and I bought 2 drawings, so I have 2 chances to win. If we win, we'll be coming over there!!!!!
Haha, Shellee, don't stress yourself out about the book. You have been busy with house guests and the trip to CA. Now that you're home, you've got gazillion loads of laundry and tons of post-vacation crap to deal with.
What kind of "balls" were you thinking of? Hopefully not tiny little testicles :D. Fish balls are actually really good, especially the kind with pureed sword fish and celery (Bill's favorite). This is the beauty of living on an island: you get all kinds of fresh fish in all shapes and forms. Eating fish is actually fun here (though I would still kill for a plate of assorted sashimi).
Ew! That makes it even worse! Lol! I wasn't thinking testicles.....hee hee. Just the idea of 'balls of fish' sounds icky. I'm sure it tastes great......but fish balls just sounds gross. ;-)
