Mommy & Daddy's Nightmarish Halloween

Since mommy and daddy got together, we've gone all out every Halloween and always had a blast (aside from travelling, this is another Bill & Kate thing)! This year, however, mommy found herself feeling envious as she goes through pictures from other people's Halloween parties and as friends discuss what they were going to be for Halloween. Daddy was actually planning to meet some friend before they went to their Halloween party just to be in the action without participating in the action. Little did we know, though we had to spend it at home, this Halloween would be just as scary and eventful.

The weather forecast reported that it would be mildly stormy in the afternoon because of the storm clouds on the outer rim of Typhoon Mirinae. Since it may very well be the last bit of good weather before winter arrives, we decided to take advantage of the good weather and called up some friends to have a picnic in the park.

This day started out great: blue skies, beautiful sunshine, a light breeze, green grass, aunt Carla's yummy muffins, and great friends. Uncle Ben, who held you in his arms when you were only 10 days old, was shocked by how much you'd grown. Uncle Kyle couldn't stop sniffing your neck. When you didn't really give him the reaction he was hoping for (giggling, that is), he went chasing after a Golden Retriever and trying to befriend it (he was just "being goofy"). Aunt Carla thinks you're cute as a button; mommy thinks Kyle and Carla will start thinking seriously about making a baby of their own after seeing you. All in all, the morning was picture perfect, and you seemed to enjoy it as well.

Storm clouds gathered and everything took a nosedive in the afternoon. You woke up screaming from one of your naps and was fussing beyond believe. At first, mommy thought it was because you were over-exhausted because we were out for two and a half hours and you got some sun. Mommy gave you a sponge bath and put you in a comfy onesie. You seemed to be more comfortable and drifted off to sleep again. However, you moaned and groaned and moved your legs up and down. You had gas and were having trouble pooping, so you couldn't get a good sleep. Since you appeared to be the calmest when you were in motion, mommy and daddy took turns carrying you and walking around the house. We also tried massaging your belly and your back, moving your legs in the way that it looked like you were paddling an invisible bicycle, and stimulating your bum hole every time we changed your diaper. Mommy nursed and held you, hoping you could get some sleep. But nothing seemed to help. You were getting more tired and uncomfortable as it got darker into the night.

The clock on the wall read 9:02. Daddy was on the computer in the kitchen, and mommy had you in her arms in the living room. You had just finished eating and were sound asleep with your mouth open and a drop of milk on your chin. Mommy was looking at you with a smile on her face cause you looked peaceful and content (not to mention CUTE). All of a sudden you started wailing and frantically moving your arms and legs. Mommy shot up from the couch and started patting your back and walking around. Daddy rushed to comfort you by talking and singing to you. You continued crying. You were crying so hard and loudly that your voice broke. Mommy and daddy didn't know what to do.

We took you to the bedroom cause we thought changing your diaper might help. Mommy thought she'd try massaging your belly before undoing your diaper and she freaked out when she felt how hard your belly was. Daddy asked what was wrong. Mommy told daddy that your belly was hard as a rock and that we should go to the ER. Mommy started getting ready to go out, and daddy disappeared into the living room. All this while, you were curled up in your bed, your little fists clenched tight, and you got tears all over your little red face.

Then daddy returned and reexamined your belly. He told mommy to calm down because your tummy felt stiff only when you were crying out. When you took a breath, it felt normal again. Mommy put down her jacket and took a deep breath. She felt a bit relieved and wanted to hold you in her arms. As soon as she picked you up, mommy and daddy heard this bubbly whooshing sound in your diaper... twice!! You stopped crying and let out a tiny little whimper/sigh. Then mommy felt your body relax and become weighty. As soon as you pooped, you went out like a light!! Your parents burst out laughing. Daddy laughed so hard he fell on the bed on his back!

And that was mommy and daddy's nightmarish Halloween of 2009. No fake blood or scary costumes. Just two rookie parents and a baby who just wanted to poop.

Tolja! But you are a quick study. I am proud of you that you were not too squeamish to try it. Go forth and multiply (some more)...you are ready.ab
