Oh Those "dot dot dot" Moments

I've been trying to talk to Kai about the new baby, but I haven't had any luck. Earlier today, when I asked him to touch my belly, he poked at it while making a "boink, boink" sound. I said, "Listen to Mommy: Never poke a woman's belly and say 'boink boink'. In fact, never poke or say anything about a woman's belly."
Then I said, "You know who's inside Mommy's belly?"
Kai, "McQueen!"
Me, "Well, McQueen is a car. He's too big to fit into Mommy's belly."
Kai, "Baby jaguar (from Diego)!!"
Me, "Good guessing, Kai. It IS a baby, but not baby jaguar. It's your baby sister."
He stared at me for 10 seconds or so. Then he patted me on the tummy and chuckled, "Heh heh heh. Silly Mommy."
............. He thought I was joking.

After dinner, when we were sitting on the couch reading an Elmo book with Kai, Bill asked me what time it was.
Kai answered, "Two!"
Then Bill asked, "How old are you, Kai?"
Without hesitation, the little man answered, "Thirty-one!"
....... but he can only count to twenty.

Kai's been asking for a bike for at least 6 months, and we finally got him a strider for his second birthday. With the bike, we also bought a helmet and a bell.
Bill, "Kai, when you ride the bike, you have to put on the..."
Kai interrupted, "Seatbelt!"
..........

This morning, Kai was pushing his bike around the house, and he fell down as he was trying to make the corner around the kitchen counter. His chin hit the handle bar and blood was coming out of his mouth. He cried but not for long. The bleeding also stopped very quickly, leaving only a small red mark at the sight of impact on his chin.
On the way to school, I asked Kai if he was going to tell teacher Tess about his new bike. Kai answered, "Kaikai driving bicycle. Bonked chin. Kaikai crying. Hurted chin. Ouchy."
............. What a good story teller!

This has happened numerous times now. When Kai's in the car, sometimes when we ask what he'd like to do today, he'd say, "Drive! Kaikai driving fast. Like McQueen. Ka-chow!"
............ We're definitely hiding the car keys.
