First Prenatal Checkup
Gestation Age: 12 Weeks 2 Days
Fetal Heartbeat: 162 per minute
CRL: 6.7 centimeters
When we saw you on the sonogram, you raised one arm and showed us the most adorable little hand and 5 tiny fingers. You weren't doing "the running man" like two weeks ago. This time, it was almost like you were breakdancing, moving your body up an down like a little worm. It was almost as if you wanted to show everyone what you can do with your well-developed spine at only 12 weeks of age.
Daddy videotaped the sonogram session so that, for the first time, everyone could see you in action.

So cute!!! I love my little niece/nephew so much already!!!!
I love this post! I hope you are feeling well. When will you find out if it's a boy or girl?
I believe it's after 16 weeks that we can find out the gender of the baby.
Depends on the blood test results from the hematologist (we find out on March 12th), Dr. Liu may try to determine the gender of the baby in the next prenatal checkup (on March 30th) to see if any subsequent tests should be done during the amniocentesis.
My energy has returned and morning sickness is completely gone. The only thing is that I'm extremely emotional. The smallest thing can make me cry. Last night, while we watched a standup comedy show, I was laughing at first and then tears started streaming down my cheeks.
It actually turned into a cry. Sigh.
Why are you doing the amniocentesis? Is that to test for Hemophilia? Just curious, I've heard it's quite the procedure, and I know 'I' wouldn't want to do it....unless it was necessary. ;-)
They say they can usually tell the gender as early as 16 weeks, but (at least over here) they don't do 'the big' ultrasound until 20 weeks. They call it the 'anatomical exam', basically doing a midway measurement, making sure everything is ok in there. So, that's when we find out, unless you have an awesome doctor that will check it out and try to find out sooner! I only had like 3 ultrasound with Renee, my sis-in-law (who went to a different hospital) got an ultrasound at almost every appointment! I was so jealous. Anyway, I hope all goes well with the amniocentesis, Billy Boy better be there to hold your hand!! ;-)
xoxo!
Why do I need an amniocentesis?! 'Cause I'm over 35 and it is a required test for older moms like moi. I've read all about the procedure, and it sounds like nothing more than a bit of pain and discomfort. I don't mean to boast, but I consider myself a veteran when it comes to dealing with pain and discomfort. It's the birthing pain that I'm worried about. This should be fine.
We wanted to find out whether I'm a carrier for Hemophilia because we want to determine if the baby might inherit the gene. If I'm not a carrier, there's nothing to worry about. On the other hand, if I am a carrier, there's a 50/50 chance that the baby may have Hemophilia (if it's a boy) or be a carrier (if it's a girl). To find out for sure, Dr. Liu will have to make arrangements for more tests to be done with the amniotic fluid that they take out during amniocentesis.
I also have to do the anatomical exam at 20 weeks. While many people (books and websites included) suggest that we wait until 20 weeks when it's more "pronounced", I have a feeling that Dr. Liu may want to find out about the sex of the baby in the next appointment. He's been my doctor throughout the whole cancer thing, so he's as excited as we are about this pregnancy. It also means a lot to him, both professionally and personally.
Bah! It's not like you're some old hag! I can understand wanting to make sure everyone is healthy and doing great, but it's not like Peanut is swiping the cobwebs out of his/her womb! Hee hee, I'm so punny.
I'm sure you're very used to all that poking and 'discomfort', you're a pretty tough chick! I was just as scared about 'birthing', but I got lucky(?), I had to have a C-Section. That was pretty scary too, but at least I didn't have to push an 8lb baby out!
Well, I hope you're not a carrier, I'm sure Hemophilia is very managable, but it would just be one less thing for you old, er um, I mean NEW parents to worry about. ;-)
That's really great that you have such a close relationship with your doctor, it just makes the whole experience that much better!
