Recent Projects

I couldn't post these latest projects because we didn't want to give it away. Now that I know both Juli and Shellee have received the pictures I made for their daughters, I can finally show you what I've been working on.


It was easy to draw a picture for Natalie 'cause... well, she's a ballerina!
Natti is also a girly-girl, so I associate her with flowers, butterflies, and pearls.

I used mostly color pencils to achieve a softness in the picture. That's my impression of Natti: a kind sweet little girl.





Juli told me that she associates Maggie with birds... possibly because one of her nicknames is Magpie.

The strawberries are from her birth mark, and cupcakes... 'cause she's her mama's little cupcake!




I decided long before I started working on the picture of Renee that pink and brown would be the major colors. I think it's because that's the color theme on Shelle's blog.

When I think of Renee, I think of a super star because she has the coolest shades and hats! That's also why I wrote her name in that Broadway font. I also associate Renee with bubble gum bubbles and daisies 'cause there's a playfulness in Renee's smile and she always looks like she's having so much fun in all the pictures of her .



Other than these pictures for the nieces, I also made a deck of multifunctional coloring cards (like the 9 that are shown here). 26 of the cards are pictures of animals with trace lines of their names on the bottom. The other 26 are simple word cards (also in trace lines) of the sounds these animals make.

When he's old enough, Peanut can use these cards for coloring and to learn more about these animals. As he gets older, he can trace and learn the spelling and pronunciation the names of these 26 animals. He will learn and match the animals with the sound each one makes (bee-buzz, duck-quack, etc.) Then.... (and this is his daddy's idea) when he gets even older, he can learn to conjugate verbs and pluralize nouns with these cards. You see how multifunctional these simple cards are?!

(Oh, Peanut.... your parents are truly nerds. But you'll see... we're cool nerds.)

Time to move on to the next projects (Yes, I'm a Gemini, and yes, I always have more than one thing going on)! For now, I'm gonna let it remain a mystery of what these projects are. What I can tell you is that one of my next projects is, comparatively speaking, quite ambitious and there is a possibility that I may not be able to finish it before Peanut arrives. However, I need to keep my mind occupied after I stop going to work, and I look forward to spending the last bit of "Kate time" doing what I enjoy.
