The Sun's Back and So Are We

I was very unhappy with the summer-like weather before Chinese New Year. I wanted it to be cold 'cause that's how I remember Chinese New Year to be from childhood. Well, have I learned "Be careful what you wish for" the HARD way. The temperature plummeted 13 degrees Celsius (from 26 to 13) right before Chinese New Year's Eve and the rain started. Throughout the entire 9 days of Chinese New Year holidays, It got colder and colder, and the rain NEVER stopped. I mean, it rained day and night, night and day. Just kept raining and raining and raining....

By the seventh day of being cooped up in the freezing house (Taiwan, located in the subtropics, doesn't have insollation, so the inside is exactly as cold as it is the outside), Bill and I were at each other's throat, ready to chew the other person's head off. Even Kai got so bored one day that, when Daddy gave him the squishy rubber ball to play with the 100th time, he threw it right back at his dad!

We had to get out of the house! Rain or shine!

And it was still rainy and windy the next day...

Since Kai's fascinated by colors and patterns, we took him to the Taipei Fine Art Museum. There was an exhibition of Cai Guo-Qiang, who is most known for his work with gunpowder. We got there early trying to avoid the crowd, but the museum was very quickly packed with like-minded people. It was hard to enjoy the exhibition with a sea of people going in all directions.

As for the exhibition... his gunpowder stuff is really cool, but we found the installation pieces trite.

When the rain finally stopped, we had friends over to play Settlers of Catan and have chilaquiles and Tequila Sunrise. As always, everyone had a fabulous time (not to toot my own horn, but we throw good parties, man). Kai got to flirt with auntie Carla, and her husband Kyle kept Kai entertained while Bill and I were busy being good hosts.

After two days of action and excitement, the two men in my life decided that they would sleep in Sunday morning, which means that I got to leisurely enjoy a quiet morning myself.

What better ways to start a brand new Year of the Tiger?

We loved our Baby Bjorn too! And that picture of you and Kai is so cute. He is such a big baby now. Watch out: don't let his head hit your chin esp. when he gets excited and he arches/stretches. It hurts!

I love Weekend mornings like this. Isn't sort of like you have stolen something out of a treasure box?
