"MCQUEEN! MCQUEEN!" Kai threw his arms out, palms facing up, "Where McQueen go?"
When he found his Lightning McQueen stuffed car under the coffee table, he got down on the floor, "What da matter, McQueen?"
Kai was getting out of bed and his toy leopard was in the way, "[Ex]cuse me, Spots. Kaikai geddup! Spots stay."
-- All about Mr. Crocodile
Kai took interest in a crocodile finger puppet all of a sudden. He carried it on his index finger around the house shouting, "Daddy, Look! A big crocodile!!"
Later that morning, Kai named it Mr. Crocodile. He brought it to breakfast, "Look, Mr. Crocodile. This is Kaikai's Cheeyoyo (Cheerio). This Kaikai's milk!"
Then he wanted to watch "aminals", so we turned on the TV and happened to catch a show about crocodiles on Oasis. When a zebra escaped from a croc's jaw and its snout was bleeding, Kai said, "Zebra ouchy. Zebra need BandAid." A few minutes later, he climbed over to me on the couch, cupped my face with his little hands and said with all seriousness, "Crocodile not nice. Zebra bite ouchy."
Later that day, we noticed he was referring to himself as Mr. Crocodile. "Mr. Crocodile hungry, Mommy."
"What would Mr. Crocodile like?"
"Mr. Crocodile want some milk. Kaikai love.... Mmm... Mr. Crocodile love milk."
"I see."
-- I may be only 2, but I know this much
Took Kai for a long walk on a beautiful autumn day. We came to a crosswalk and, before I could say anything, Kai stopped and said, "Look. Cars? Nope! Let's go, Mommy. Fast!"
As we were walking, Kai sometimes wanted to go into other people's yards. Each time I stopped him by telling him, "We can't just go to other's people's house." The last time I stopped him, Kai said in this "I know. I know" kind of way, "Not Kaikai's house."
We met 3 sisters and their mom on the playground. The girls were significantly older (the youngest is 6), so they weren't interested in playing with Kai. When Kai heard sirens in a distance, he shouted excitedly, "Fire truck!" One of the girls said to her sisters, "How can he know it's a fire truck? It could be an ambulance." All the girls giggled. Kai looked at them from the sandbox and said loudly, "Fire truck [made his fire truck sound]. Abebe [made his ambulance sound]. And police car [made his police car sound]." Then in a "I rest my case" tone, Kai concluded, "Fire truck!"
